LOW-INCOME EARNERS TO GET HOUSING LOANS
The Grenada government has announced the establishment of a soft loan scheme to assist low-income earners construct their houses. Economic Development Minister Oliver Joseph said the sum of $2 million dollars has been allocated for this new venture. Joseph said the soft loan scheme is part of a wider initiative by the Keith Mitchell Administration to tackle the major problem of housing in Grenada. “People have approached us for soft loans to build their houses, so Cabinet decided to establish a soft loan with the sum of $2 million dollars allocated for that purpose. Low income earners who wish to construct a house can access this small loan,” Minister Joseph said. “As you know it is very difficult if you do not have adequate security to get a loan from the commercial institutions. So, a lot of people cannot go to the banks or credit unions to obtain a loan and we see it as part of our responsibility to assist them.” Minister Joseph estimates that eight out of every ten persons who visit his constituency office seeking help have been requesting housing assistance. Government, under a programme with the Chinese government, will also be building additional housing units. “It is a major problem with respect to housing. Over the next four years we really plan to make a big dent on the problem of housing in Grenada. We feel the decision to put $2 million dollars in this scheme will go a long way in assisting the needy,” Minister Joseph said. “It will be a revolving loan, they will have to pay on a monthly basis. So, as the payments start we can extend the facility to other people.” Source: gov.gd

LOW-INCOME EARNERS TO GET HOUSING LOANS
Date line 8/27/14 news from Government is that after nearly 15 years or so in and out of office the minister of Economic Development one Mr Oliver Joseph now talks about the poor and quote Low -income earners being assisted with soft loan to assist them with housing ,and there was i thinking that the Chinese was bulding low income affordable homes to assist the poor as was being done under the last Tillmas /Ndc Government, yes this government is really good at using words like-soft loan-now i ask myself what the hell all this means ,and here is my take on matters like this and it is plain to see tricks of what this Government is all about ,and it is plain that this Mitchell Government just dont give a fig leaf of the poor and needy in our country and that their real interest for being in politics is to line their own pockets as was shown by that M.P.who it is claimed was filling up his car with gas in a place where he should not have, and shows once again this government and their people contempt for the due process of good governance in Grenada ,which brings me back to quote this government intended assistance to low income earners to construct their home, yes this is the same government who has introduce to our already out of a job people, yes it is this government who came into office promising our voters milk and honey against what they claimed was not being offered by the Tillman Ndc Government ,however since being in office our grenadian people have seen their bargaining power reduce with high unemployment, high Taxes,so the question is how the hell are these Low income earners suppose to pay back such soft loan if the are out of a job,and what is most important is this government version of transparency and accountability when it comes to dealing with such matters of transparency and it will be business asusal where their supporters is concerned, and if as Mr Joseph says that banks is unable to faciliate such scheme, and if not who then and how is government intended to distribute such loans and will there be a register of checks and balances of applicants of those applying for such Soft Loans. just asking.
