GRENADA TARGETS NEW LAWS AIMED AT REDUCING ELECTRICITY ...
The Grenada Government has announced that new laws would be introduced next year aimed at reducing the cost of electricity in the country. Delivering the Throne speech in Parliament on Thursday Governor General Dame Cecile La Grenade says a new electricity supply act would be tabled in parliament. The head of state says the new law will cover tariff setting, use of renewable sources of energy and provision of regulation by the Public Utilities Commission. The high cost of electricity is seen as one of the factors crippling economic growth in Grenada. “The high cost of electricity remains a binding constraint to Grenada’s growth and competitiveness,” the Government told parliament. “My government is preparing a new a new Electricity Supply Act which is expected to be tabled in parliament in 2015”. Meanwhile the Governor General has reported that early results of the Home Grown Programme have been encouraging. Dame La Grenadine told the parliament that the economy had grown for a second straight year after years of decline. A recent report by the IMF suggested improvement in Grenada’s fiscal situation and rising confidence in the investment climate. “These are yet early days, but the initial results of the Programme have been encouraging…”Dame La Grenade said. The 2015 budget to be presented in Parliament next month is expected to be consistent with the Home Grown Programme with top priorities likely to be fiscal and debt sustainability, investment in the productive sectors and job creation. The Governor General also disclosed that resources will be increased to tackle the deterioration in the country’s road network. “My government is acutely aware of the deterioration of our nation’s roads,” the head of state pointed out. “In 2015, more resources will be deployed to improve the maintenance and upkeep of roads, especially now that the Asphalt plant is fully operational, after several years of not being functional”. Plans were also announced to increase the amount allocated to the Small Business Loan Scheme while measures are being introduced to deal with the inefficiencies identified during the first year of the programme. GRENADA TARGETS NEW LAWS AIMED AT REDUCING ELECTRICITY ...
If what the GG has outline in the recent Queen/Throne speech re a new bill to address the high cost of electricity here in grenada that i must say is excellent news for our hard press people having just returned from grenada i can tell you my fellow grenadians in the diaspora that things is TOUGH LIKE goo goo roots and listening to ministers blabbering on ,let me say that together with Hamlet Mark and some of the sorry so called crap reporters we currently have here in grenada lord help us ,for this government seems to have a spell of something of the dark night over our people ,with their form of reporting so called GOOD NEWS,now here is something to chew on for during the election campaign the then opposition nnp were complaining of the terrible state of our roads, well i can tell you that currently our roads is in a terrible state with dangerous pot holes all over the place especially on the western side, again the then opposition were complaining that many of our young men and women were sitting about without no jobs,Mr Clifton minister for Rose Hill please take a walk on the wild side in Rose Hill and notice the amount of idle hands and feet that seats by the road sides doing NOTHING which is a pattern one finds all over grenada especially the country side ,also there is a pattern that is very disturbing and it is this THE ROAD BUILDING PROJECTS,for it appears that by some magic a project is started and then after 25 yards it is stoped (is this a new show thing or WIP)? again in the village of Waltham in the Parish of St Marks there is a road project currently taking place where there is no houses and what i was told is that some big shot doctor with vested interest had a word with someone in power hence this road project, and as for the intended electricity new bill one just have to wait and see for currently our grenadian people is paying a high price for the service of electricity here in Grenada coupled that with the highest ever tax burden ever been placed on our people and coming from a party that promised during their election campaign to return our people to happy days.

Gabe, thanks for the good info. I am saddened by the high unemployment rate, high cost of living, high taxes, poor health care, poor drainage etc. etc. however, I am not surprise. As the old folks say "what do you get from a bag of coals? DUST. I am sorry that Grenadians were bamboozled by the so- called-rescuers. I forgot everything about the throne speech. Where is the throne in Grenada?
