GRENADA AND ST KITTS-NEVIS TO JOIN ALBA NEXT MONTH |
|
|
It is expected that the membership of Grenada and St Kitts and Nevis will be made official during 13th summit of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas (ALBA) in Havana, Cuba, on December 14, when the regional bloc will also celebrate the tenth anniversary of its founding.
Bernardo Alvarez, executive secretary, asserted that ALBA-TCP emerged as an alternative to traditional schemes of integration and that today it is a powerful political alliance that defends the environment and human rights, and against interventionism and war.
According to Alvarez, the progress and achievements of the alliance will be promoted in countries like Spain, France and Germany, among other countries, and the Venezuelan embassies in various nations will carry out activities to promote the significance, goals and plans of the organization.
The 13th summit will honour its founders, former presidents Hugo Chavez of Venezuela and Fidel Castro of Cuba.
The two new member nations will bring the total to 11, the others being Antigua and Barbuda, Bolivia, Cuba, Dominica, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Saint Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, and Venezuela.
