SANDALS MAKING FURTHER INVESTMENT IN GRENADA
Grenada’s economy will see a further boost with the creation of some 105 jobs following the establishment of a state-of-the-art sales and marketing center for Sandals Resorts International. Chairman of Sandals, Gordon “Butch” Stewart made the special presentation to a group of private and public stakeholders on this and other significant investment the company will embark upon in Grenada in the coming weeks. Both projects will represent more than US$1.6 million in added investment in the Spice Isle. The sales and marketing center will sit on the existing Sandals LaSource grounds and will be complemented by an 8,500 square feet conference center. While the projections are not yet final, Stewart approximates the value of the center’s investment at close to US$800,000 for infrastructure alone. Considerable training, he says, will be done with selected employees on the Sandals brand, making it a significant long-term investment in the people of Grenada. The Conference Centre cost is estimated to be closer to US$850,000. When asked about the significance of the project being undertaken in Grenada specifically, given the existence of centers in Jamaica and St. Lucia, Stewart replied, “The people—their education and attitude brings a distinct advantage to the organisation.” Also addressing the gathering was Sebastian Tickle, charged with the formulation of the project, who indicated that the sales and marketing centre operations are expected to begin by April 2015. Stewart confirmed that the project is expected to begin in approximately 8 to 10 weeks. The announcement comes almost a year after Sandals LaSource opened its doors on December 21, 2013, and was welcomed by attendees including Prime Minister Keith Mitchell, representatives of the Grenada Tourism Authority, fellow hoteliers and private sector associates. SANDALS MAKING FURTHER INVESTMENT IN GRENADA
This is excellent good news for our underfire unemployed here in Grenada, and again one have to be careful that we dont raise our hopes too high in terms of our own unemployed people and youths being selected (on merit of course) because in most cases these new recuits is imported by some of these companies, but that being said is that those who may be lucky enough to be selected we say well done ,and also a big thank you to the previous government of Tillman Thomas and his Team in getting the Sandals Company to invest in Grenada although, one is still concern as to Sandals previous promises made in terms of using/investing more in our home grown agriculture sector by the Sandals company as part of their Sandals Brands instead of their now policy of importing many of their agriculture produce products especially from America, that being said one welcome the good news and hope that the much needed jobs to our already massive unemployment here in Grenada will ease the pain and suffering of our people,so well done The Sandals Company.
