GRENADA PROMOTERS LOBBY AGAINST WORK PERMITS FOR CARIBB...
Grenadian show promoters are urging the Keith Mitchell administration to remove the need for work permits for Caribbean artistes contracted to perform in the island. The 16 top promoters made their position known during a meeting with Culture Minister Brenda Hood as they met to discuss ways of promoting Grenada’s creative industry. “The promoters expressed that it was very frustrating to promote shows, because Grenada is the only Caribbean territory that is demanding work permits from other Caribbean artistes, who enter the country to perform. In addition, the promoters stated that the level of taxation on their businesses is too high and is stifling the growth of the entertainment industry in Grenada,” according to a government statement issued after the meeting. The statement quoted Hood as committing to engage the ministries of Finance and Labour, on the concerns raised, in an effort to seek some relief for the promoters and to advance the creative industry. It said that the meeting ended with the promoters selecting an executive for advancing the work of the newly formed Grenada Promoters Association. Another meeting is scheduled for January next year. GRENADA PROMOTERS LOBBY AGAINST WORK PERMITS FOR CARIBB...
Now it is all well and some would say well why not eased the work permits of those so called entertainers who wishes to perform in grenada, but it should be noted that some of these enterainers do bring with them large groups of person that may not be quite what we would need entering into grenada, for i can remember a case in hand where an entertainer from Jamaica was refuse entry because of public and the security was concern as to the extra baggage(entourage/groupies) that was also on the list, secondly these promoters cry about the Tax,hell where have these money mad grabbers been ,for someone should tell these big heads that grenadians especially the poorest is currently paying one of the highest level of taxes here in the Caribbean and have they forgotten the Pm call for all concern to prepare for a Hair cut and belt tightening, come on guys wake up for i would agree that the permit thing should be look at closely ,but Tax is tax and we all have to pay rich and poor you just have to ask the poor man in the street.
