JETBLUE TO FLY THE GRENADA SKIES
Grenada’s fast-growing tourism industry is set to receive another major boost after JetBlue announced on Wednesday that it was starting a twice weekly service to St.George’s. JetBlue says it has set June 11 this year as the date to commence flights from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Grenada's Maurice Bishop International Airport. The JetBlue statement says the company is awaiting approval from Government. "We cannot wait to add Grenada to our network of Caribbean destinations," said Dave Clark, JetBlue's vice president, network planning. "Grenada is one of the most beautiful and adventurous destinations in the Caribbean and our new nonstop service will make it much easier to get there. Whether you go for the white sand beaches, world class diving, flagship resorts, or rich history, we know you will want to return again and again." JetBlue’s twice weekly service will be on Thursdays and Sundays to Grenada, the airline’s 90th destination and its 32nd destination in the Caribbean and Latin America. JetBlue will serve the route with its spacious 150-seat Airbus A320 aircraft featuring the most legroom in coach, free first-run movies on flights to/from Grenada, and unlimited free snacks and soft drinks. "Grenada has seen remarkable growth in tourism thanks to a fresh marketing approach, an extraordinary new Sandals resort and a very resilient and committed tourism sector. Combine that with all the magnificent facets of our tri-island state and we have a winning formula,” said the Honorable Alexandra Otway-Noel, Minister of Implementation, Government of Grenada. “JetBlue is known to offer quality service and high standards, and is the perfect addition to our family. We are indeed very pleased to welcome the inaugural flight on June 11th to Pure Grenada, the Spice of the Caribbean”. Source: gov.gd

JETBLUE TO FLY THE GRENADA SKIES
All this talk of additional airlines to Grenada is a great idea and good for the country, however, when these talks are being made, considerations concerning amount of luggage, a passenger can carry with him/her should be a top priority. It is ridiculous that after you purchase your ticket to travel, which is already hi-sky, you still have to worry about having to pay extra for luggage. I think it is an insult to customers because, after all we cannot travel without clothes, especially people returning home on vacation, bearing in mind we have family and friends who we may want to bring some clothes and other little things for. Over the last couple of years the pattern of airlines to follow suit and charge people a pound and a crown to carry luggage has become a pain in the neck, one which the government should look into. I appeal to those of you making such agreements and signing such contracts please negotiate wisely. The fares are already high and having to pay extra for your luggage is quite unreasonable and unfair. Its all good to get the more airlines to come to Grenada but it would be nice to enjoy not having to pay extra for your luggage too.

Veronica good points, and here is a little input from me and it is this, one can remember the dreaded APD Tax which governments say was necessary because of the high cost of airline fuel ,but now that the price of fuel have been falling for some months ,both governments and the airlines have done nothing to address that issue and we are still paying sky hi on airline fares, and believe me i think the same can be said of the luggage issues ,for i do believe that in this current government we have Grenada they dont give a fig leaf we the customers (Grenadians Nationals living abroad who coms home on leave to visit families and friends)and when they talk of customers they are not talking about us ,more of the foreign visitors who comes here travelling light for a one or two weeks holiday stay.

Veronica, unfortunately, you cannot have your cake and eat it too. You're expressing your gratitude for the additional airlines flying into Grenada, but yet complaining about being charged extra for your luggage. I would recommend you send a barrel or two ahead of you traveling to Grenada, so that they arrive ahead of your scheduled arrival. Overloading an airplane is also risky. You may also take into consideration that many of us have become overweight, which eats into the amount of weight the airplanes can carry.

Mr Observer Oh i am surprise at the response you gave towards veronica most valid points,my friends those of us who travels in and out of grenada ,do so to visit family and friends and sometimes we do like to take back with us a little present or two ,that compared with the high cost of the Airlines tickets when flying to Grenada, and like Veronice all we are asking for is a little consideration ie be it a reduction in the fares or an increase in the luggage allowance,it should also be noted that we as grenadians be they in London,New York or Canada do add to the financial coffers of the Treasury in terms of our spending power,as for your take on the barrel, hey that was a cheap shot for someone as intellegent as yourself.
