PM MITCHELL REFUTES CLAIMS OF VICTIMIZATION AGAINST UNI...
Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell has refuted allegations of professional victimization against public officer Rachael Roberts. The concerns were raised by the newly elected executive of the Trade Union Movement (TUC) during a meeting with the Grenadian leader on Tuesday. Roberts, an executive of the Public Workers Union, was also present at the meeting. Dr. Mitchell reiterated his consistently expressed view, that this government will not engage in any form of victimization against any worker. “We clearly accept people’s right to criticize and express their views,” the Prime Minister told the union leaders. “We also understand that the Union has to stand up for their workers.” Prime Minister Mitchell reminded the Union leadership that his administration has demonstrated a willingness to adjust positions when concerns are brought on specific issues, and that there are times when things are done that are not done with Government’s knowledge but Government gets the blame. It is therefore imperative, according to Dr. Mitchell, that these issues are brought to the attention of the political directorate as soon as possible. The issue of victimization was one of several issues raised in the first meeting between the new leadership of the Trade Unions and the Prime Minister, held on Tuesday, May 12th. During the meeting, the unions and Prime Minister Mitchell both expressed their commitment to work together on key issues of national concern, understanding that they have their respective constituents to satisfy across the board. The victimization of public workers and those who depend on public services has been embedded in our system for many generations. In fact, this has been going on ever since the abolition of slavery; a transformation of the plantation practices into post slavery era. Under Hairy, people fired, threatened, beaten, ostracized, sent into exile or imprisoned for having a different point of view of the status quo set forth by which ever political party was in power. Those who publicly declared their allegiance were at the mercy of the ballot box. Today, though Keith Mitchell or Tillman Thomas may not use employ the past vicious practices of Hairy, Blaize, Brizan, Ben Jones, they'yet engaged in similar tactics, but in a very subtle way. For example, we as a people are fully aware what has happened to members of the press, political and social activists. We,re also aware of the practices of some of the religious denominations here in Grenada. Our leaders do not expect us to think objectively. To have a differing vsurely, renders you an enemy of the state.

Prime Minister Mitchell ,sir our little Grenada is littered with persons, professionals persons who have been the victim of you and your government political victimization, also has the Pm forgotten that Lady who was an officer in the electorial office and where all sorts of mischief making was made against her and no sooner your government winning the last election and taking office she was sacked ,again there are several others who have been the victim of your government victimization including a COP,a manager of the PORT,a manager of the Airport the list goes on and therefore i am surprise that our PM has see fit to plead innocent of charge and like everything else it appears that our Pm has a problem with remembering past events where several very professional people was removed or sacked from their jobs by orders from high above within his government and the question is what is the difference in the case of Ms Rachael Roberts.
