GRENADA MOVES TO TACKLE SEAWEED PROBLEMS
Efforts are underway to clear the seaweed on the eastern side of the island, which is causing problems for residents. The large pileup, generating a strong and unpleasant stench especially in Marquis and Soubise, has been declared an emergency by NADMA. Stakeholders from NaDMA, the ministries of Health, Agriculture, Fisheries and Works, Police, Port Authority, district coordinators and residents of the affected areas, met Monday (June 8) afternoon at NaDMA, to tackle the issue. It was decided that the seaweed or sargassum will be cleared from the affected area and stored for assessment. A five-member team was selected and was expected to assess the four areas targeted for storage: Hope, Pearls, Simon and the Telescope Quarry. The seaweed could be a health hazard as it is said to be generating hydrogen sulfide. Villagers have reported a decline in the fishing industry and the corrosion of appliances, jewelry and household items. NADMA, which is spearheading the effort, will also be carrying out a medical assessment of residents in Marquis and Soubise to ascertain their health and well-being, so that appropriate assistance can be provided. There is urgency by stakeholders to prevent the seaweed from spreading to the western side of the island. Source: gov.gd

Grenadians stop complaining of where the seaweed problems is located, the most important this is getting it clean as soon as the Government get a safe area away from residents to dispose it, because the seaweed is all over beaches in the Caribbean Sea, even in Key West Florida on our visit there and we couldn't used the beach. As a result, it will give some of the residents to visit Grand Anse beach, instead of tourist enjoying it better than Grenadians.

Hi Joan you are asking Grenadians to stop complaining as to the sea weed issue resting on our lovely silver sands, because we mention our local beach Bathway, well let me say to you Joan for too long and recently our people have been fed total rubbish without complaining ,not like you guys in Key West who as you say would like to come to Grenada to go bathe in Grand Anse, well good on you and your Key West Florida Gang but us Bathway people would like Government and the beach cleaning agency NaDmA to do something quickly because the August Holiday is fast approaching and the Bahway Bathers including Tourist and Grenadian living in Kest West Florida and especially those Key Westers who would like to come and bathe in beautiful Bathway Beach we ask please clean up our beaches from this terrible sea weeds on our lovely beaches.

This type of operation is bloody long overdue by those who is responsible for our especially those lovely beaches on the western side especially our beloved Bathway Beach, and here is a grip from me having recently been there the last two weeks ,hey the smell was really bad and some would say that if such smell was coming from Grand-Anse beach ministers would been falling over themselves to get things done to please the foreign tourists,so Mr Minister of Health and Fisheries, the bathers and visitors of Bathway Beach is just as important to the Grenada economy as those that visits Grand Anse Beach,so here is a Big up to NaDMA.
