ON THE MOVE: GRENADIANS MAKING THEIR MARK
click
At home and abroad, natives of the Spice Isle are finding success in their chosen fields. This week we profile a Grenadian who is providing excellent service in the legal industry: Dr. Natasha Bhola. G.C.: Where in Grenada are you from? Dr. Natasha Bhola: I was born in St. George and lived the first 9 years of my life in River Sallee, St. Patrick's. G.C.: Tell us about growing up in Grenada. Where did you go to school? Dr. Bhola: I attended St. Patrick's RC School and later Wesley College Secondary School. As a child I noticed my father organizing political meetings and campaigning for his party. He also advised community residents on business and legal matters although he was not an attorney. One of the things I learned early on from him was that hard work and commitment is inextricably linked to success. He often stressed to his children that “If you work hard and respect others you can achieve anything.” G.C.: When did you migrate to the United States and how did you start out? Dr. Bhola: I immigrated to the U.S. in 2002 and started college that same year. I first completed a paralegal degree and then I two bachelor’s degrees at Fordham University in Politics and Legal & Policy Studies. I further achieved my master’s and doctorate in Counseling before initiating my studies in law. Two of the greatest experiences I had during my college education were being selected as a student delegate to attend the annual National Conference of Ethics in America held at West Point Military Academy and volunteering for the CUNY/Daily News citizenship project. G.C.: Why did you choose the profession you’re in now? Was it something you’ve always wanted to do? Dr. Bhola: My current profession is a shadow of my aspiring goal which is being a practicing attorney. My interest in public service was developed from childhood. My motivation to pursue a business/legal career has been in part a product of my experience in the areas of public relations. G.C.: Tell us about your company. Dr. Bhola: I am currently owner and founder of B&N Business Services, located on Church Avenue in Brooklyn. B&N is a multi and paralegal services business serving clients in the U.S. as well as the international community from areas in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Caribbean. We have a team of attorneys, accountants and nonprofit organization that are affiliated and networked with B&N. G.C.: Why did you start B&N? Dr. Bhola: I felt there was a need to help individuals on a large scale. During my employment with the New York Criminal Justice Agency at the Manhattan Criminal Court, I found my passion to start my own business to help people achieve success. I realized there are many people in need of help with various legal issues who are not able to afford the high cost. The services I proved are not only be inexpensive, but also genuine and successful. G.C.: Why do you think B&N has done so well? Dr. Bhola: We work very hard to meet the needs of our clients. Everything we do is guided by the following philosophy: “Determination is the key, no matter what obstacles you face. Success depends on how much you want to succeed.” We have made a tremendous effort to help the American people and many lives have been changed for the better because of the dedication and care we put into meeting the needs of each individual who crossed our path. G.C.: What’s ahead for you and for B&N? Dr. Bhola: I’m well on the way to earning my law degree and that keeps me pretty busy. I want to be able to do more for my clients and my community. We are looking to expand the services offered by B&N. G.C.: What advice would you give other immigrants starting a business? Dr. Bhola: People always say you should do what you’re passionate about and I believe that too. I would also say you have to have the right attributes if you want to be successful at anything you do: focus, maturity and determination.
