GRENADA OPPOSITION CALLS FOR HARSHER PUNISHMENT FOR MUR...
A group of opposition leaders in Grenada have called for harsher sentences to be imposed by the courts for severe crimes like rape and murder. Leader of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Nazim Burke, said, "The NDC leadership is very confused about the punishment for rape in Grenada, and we can’t be the only ones left confused by the current trends in rape in sentencing.” According to Burke, who plans to raise the issue in parliament, the government has remained silent when sentences for rape crimes are so disproportionately weak. “Our court system must punish severe crimes like rape and murder more harshly than minor infractions such as theft. Judges must use discretion when imposing jail terms that meet the requirement of justice especially in case of rape,” he said. In Grenada, the credibility of the victims is often on trial as much as the guilt or innocence of the accused. “All the victims are asking for is a system where the punishment fits the crime where the rapist, the real offenders go to jail and those who are not criminals are treated accordingly,” Burke added. GRENADA OPPOSITION CALLS FOR HARSHER PUNISHMENT FOR MUR...
When judges and attorneys can sit and break bread together outside the courtroom, make behind the scene deals with their colleagues, families of the villains, accused and criminals, then there's no way justice will be rendered to those who have fallen victims to such heinous crimes. we'll continue to be held victims of the colonial masters' kitchen slaves-law men unless someone is held accountable.

Well said brother The Observer, and sad to to say that some eighteen months or so back, there was this story about a lady the mother of five children who worked for KFC and it was reported that she was accused for stealing $12oo dollars from her employer ,and when she came to court the then Judge/Magistrate threathen to send her to jail for five years, now compare that to some of the sentences being handed down to these Rapist and Murders even those officials who were caught stealing and misusing their position while working in high positions in Government.

I endosed the comments of the leader of the opposition Senator Nazim Burke, especially as these type of very serious crimes is on the increase and whats more our current Government and judges is playing lip service especially where Rape and Murder is concern.
