GRENADA GOVERNMENT TO COMPENSATE FARMERS AFFECTED BY HE...
The Grenada government says it will compensate farmers whose properties were damage following the heavy rains here last week. Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell said he has instructed the Ministry of Agriculture to work with Parliamentarians in the affected areas to immediately assess and ascertain the damage suffered by farmers due to the heavy rains and flooding. “Subsequent to the reports from the Ministry, Cabinet will move to compensate the affected farmers as soon as possible, within the constraints of the Government’s resources, so as to ensure that their livelihoods are restored in the shortest possible time,” according to a government statement. Mitchell was briefed on the damage by officials of the National Disaster Management Agency and the parliamentarians for the affected areas. “We are just entering the holiday season and being the son of a former farmer, I am aware of how much this time of year means to farmers. They would have recently done extensive planting and would be looking forward to harvest and their livelihood to be able to have a good season, and this happens, unexpectedly,” Mitchell added. “I cannot in good conscience or leadership, not move to help them reclaim that hope and those plans, so that their families can enjoy the season”. The trough system last week affected areas mainly in St. Andrew’s, St. Patrick’s and Carriacou. There was no loss of life. Source: ja observer

GRENADA GOVERNMENT TO COMPENSATE FARMERS AFFECTED BY HE...
Geraldine and Gabe, please note that PM Keith Mitchell has used and will continue to perpetuate his generosity at the cost or peril of the people to further enhance his political agenda. As you are fully aware, some of our people are quite gullible as long as something for free is handed over to them. In most cases, these folks don't give hoot. Satisfy their immediate needs and forget about the future consequences and they're more than happy. We we begin to think about my community, society and country, then and only then, would this pro per quo political moves by Keith Mitchell be stopped. Unfortunately, there's no promising leader to change the status quo in future elections in Grenada.

What the hell did they plant recently that can be harvested instantaneously? I have cultivated from sugarcane, cassava, corn and peas, lettuce and tomato and nothing fits the statement of recent plant and soon to be harvested. Why should taxpayers shoulder foreign debt for political expediency?

Brother Stallion i see that you are still awaiting the delivery train and hey that statement by the PM is a political one(for you know his supporters like to hear such pretend statements) for one should remember that after Ivan and how none effective the then Nnp government were in assisting farmers in replanting lost crops except those loyal supporters of the green gang, and it is now clear that Mitchell and his uncaring lot dont give a fig about our dedicated hard working farmers, take for example Minister Bhola who claims to be a farmer and his contribution to farmers as a past agriculture minister, zero.

To conceive the the idea that PM Mitchell would pay at the ballot is a fallacy. Most Grenadian do not vote on the issue.Unfortunately, they vote on emotions and "what's in it for me" syndrome. All PM and his party need to do is to ensure they provide a few days or couple weeks of work a few months. Or weeks prior to the election and he and the NNP can assure they will be re-elected for a 2nd, 3rd...term in office. When we decide to focus on the issues - social (gay' LGBT, same sex marriage, abortion, crime, drugs, etc.), polo all (decisions that our elected officials make and issues they make make that affect all of us), economical (financial decisions regarding the country's financial stability and ability to support public services such as health care, employment, social services for the elderly and those. In dire need of government subsidies, etc.), moral issues (does the government support the values you hold so dearly?). When some of us begin to look at those thing outside the box and beyond ourselves, then and only then would our polical appointees stop taking us for granted. It's not the cow head, bottle of rum, a few chickens they tend give us every five years to ensure we vote for them. We must demand more and hold them promises made prior to they being elected into office.

here we go again gabe about waiting for the gravy train. my bro sorry to disappoint you but i don't depend on politicians for anything. all i simply say is instead of complaining about nnp and keith do the talking at the ballot or remain quiet and let others do the talking for you. yes it true that politicians are liars and thieves but how else can they be stopped? whether we like it or not we have to vote for change. we can whine and complain all we want but what good is it if we don't vote?

Bro Stallion ,please re-read my post where i said quote Delivery Train and (not The Gravy Train as you claimed)that which was promised by the Nnp during the 2013 Election campaign resulting in the 15-nil Nnp Victory at the polls yes democracy at work some would say,and just to add my statement was not directed at you personally and no offence intended to you my brother abd although we may be sitting on different side of the fence our love for our country i believe that we are on the same page in wanting Grenada to advance as one people.
