PM MITCHELL'S STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF FIDEL CASTRO
The people and government of Grenada mourn today with the people and government of Cuba on the passing of their great revolutionary leader Fidel Castro Ruiz. Through our embassy in Havana, we have extended to President Raul Castro and his government our deepest sympathies. We have also been in touch with the Cuban Ambassador in St George’s in this moment of profound grief. But we can now all march forward on this path of development, appreciating that Fidel Castro will remain a towering figure not only in the history of Cuba, but in our region. He has consistently been a friend of the Grenadian people, and under his leadership, Cuba has selflessly helped trained thousands of our current professionals, particularly in the field of medicine. Through the generous assistance of Cuba, ordinary boys and girls from working-class families across Grenada, were afforded a better chance in life. Under Fidel Castro, Cuba made international assistance and solidarity the core of its political DNA. Inspite of his own challenges at home, and in the face of untold hostility, Castro found the political will to help Grenada build its current international airport, confirming Fidel as a great god-father of modern day Grenadian development. I have had the opportunity to meet with President Fidel Castro many times; and we were honored to have officially hosted him here in St Georges in 1998. We were always amazed by his sense of patriotic duty to the cause of development in the third world and his understanding of the struggles and plight of his neighbors. His contribution of blood, sweat and tears to the liberation struggles in Africa must go down as one of the greatest chapters in human solidarity of the last 100 years. In Fidel Castro, Grenada had a long-lasting and permanent friend. But we now can rest assured that his legacy will endure, and his contribution to making this world a better place will always be remembered. History has indeed absolved him. Source: gov.gd

PM MITCHELL'S STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF FIDEL CASTRO
Well said Dr. Mitchell. You are now on the right side of history. I remember the days when you criticized us for being friends of the late great Fidel Castro & Communism. I guess you were trying to please the Colonial Masters during that period. However you seem to learn a good lesson; the Europeans/US does not give a hoot about black folks in any part of the world. Fidel on the other hand improved the living condition of the Afro Cubans and blacks in the Caribbean & Africa despite the non effective embargo. Finally Dr. Mitchell, why don't you learn from Fidel and create some real progress in Grenada? Please try, I am begging you Sir.

Well said Bro.Joe.i could not have put it better because for too often Dr Mitchell seems to forget his path and the role he played into big time politics while he was in America during and after bro.Bishop reign with reference to Bro.Bishop and Grenada association with Fidel Castro Cuba, now listening to Dr Mitchell he would have you believe that he is now a converted man or is he saying so for saying sake.

it all well and good to say fidel castro did some great things. but how many people were murdered, jailed and exiled.like they say nothing goes unpaid and we all have to answer for our actions.

Stallion,I will not doubt that he may had killed and imprisoned like many of the so called democracies may have done and maybe still doing. None of those brutalities are justifiable. According to history of Cuba, Batista also killed and locked-up thousands of Cubans before the revolution but we never hear about that. We only hear about what enemies of the revolution and the white welfare Cubans in Miami want us to hear. I can't disagree with you "we all have to answer for our actions".
