GERMAN SAILOR FOUND DEAD IN DRIFTING YACHT IN GRENADA
Grenada police yesterday said the decomposing body found on a yacht drifting seven miles south of here is that of German national, Bernd Ludwig Ottogottel. Police said that a group of Grenadian divers saw the yacht on April 13 sailing without professional guidance and alerted the local Coast Guard whose members found the body in the cabin. The yacht, which carried the name “VAMP”, has been taken to the Coast Guard base. The authorities said that a search of the 40-foot yacht with badly damaged sails led to the discovery of a German passport in the name of 62-year-old Ottogottel. Police have not given any further details except to say that the local Germany Consulate has been informed. “We are also working with Interpol (International Police) to assist in tracking the yacht. What we know so far is that it's a German-registered yacht and it set sail from the Canary Islands,” said Directive Superintendent Earl Dunbar, adding that the police will be carrying out further investigations before a final determination is made as to the possible cause of death.
