SILVERSANDS GRENADA IS NOW OPEN FOR BUSINESS
Silversands Grenada last month officially opened in St. George's, Grenada, where owner Naguib Sawiris reportedly invested more than US$125 million to build the resort, which has 43 suites and nine villas. “This project is important for us as not only does it add to our already high-end luxury resort market, the hotel is committed to working with local farmers for their fruit and vegetable supplies, as well as working with the local tertiary institution, the T.A. Marryshow Community College, to discover talent in the hospitality sector,” said Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation Clarice Modeste-Curwen in a statement. Chairman of the Grenada Tourism Authority Brenda Hood noted Sawiris is promoting the destination first and the hotel second. “This is the very essence of our marketing of the destination to showcase the uniqueness of what Grenada has to offer first and foremost from our flora and fauna to our world-renowned spices,“ she said. The architecture and interior design was created by Paris-based firm AW², Reda Amalou & Stéphanie Ledoux. Sawiris reportedly said the hotel is looking to go after the same kind of travelers who visit Caribbean hotspots like St. Barth's and Barbados but avoid Grenada. “We want to show these clients that coming to this nature-blessed island, that has somehow kept its originality, is worthwhile.” Grenada also is slated to get the Kimpton Kawana Bay Resort in early 2019, and Sawiris is working on a second and third hotel for the country.
