PRIME MINISTER VISITS WITH OSCAR BARTHOLOMEW'S WIFE
ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, 4 JANUARY, 2012_ Prime Minister Tillman Thomas has assured Mrs. Dolette Bartholomew, the widow of Oscar Bartholomew, who died as a result of an incident at a police station in St. David on Boxing Day, that his office will ensure that the investigation into the death of her husband will be thorough, complete and professional. The Prime Minister gave the assurance to Mrs. Bartholomew and other members of her husband’s family during a meeting at their home in Grand Anse, on Wednesday evening, Mr. Thomas, who is also responsible for National Security, extended his condolences to the family and said he was “greatly saddened” at the incident. “This is a regrettable tragedy and a painful experience for you, for his extended family and for all of us in Grenada. Our first priority is to ensure that the investigation is transparent and that justice prevails,” the Prime Minister told Mrs. Bartholomew, who was accompanied by her lawyer, Derick Sylvester. “We will take all the necessary steps to ensure, if at all possible, that this situation is never repeated in Grenada,” the Grenadian leader told Mrs. Bartholomew, acknowledging that the wide spread publicity given to the death of her husband has affected Grenada’s image as a law abiding country where the rights of people are respected. “I have many friends in Grenada and we came here for a visit with family and friends, not for this. All I want to see is justice,” Mrs. Bartholomew told the Prime Minister. The Grenadian leader has called for a review of the policy governing persons held in police custody, to ensure that they are treated appropriately.

morning to all gc contributors.i have read the postings and i have some serious concerns.i think the attacks against my friend gabe here are not warranted.he has steadfastly maintained his support for ndc, rightly or wrongly, but i don't believe i have ever read any postings of his that support the hiring of the gang of 17.i mean, its one thing to support ndc,but another thing to support some of their decisions.i believe that we all have ideas for fixing our country, including gabe, but we differ on the strategy to achieve it.gabe thinks that the ndc could fix things, which i don't think, but that's his own opinion.remember folks,if we all think alike and do things alike, the world would be a very boring place.i will encourage mt friend gabe to keep writing his views.we all have our country at heart.

Grenada definitely needs another hero. Someone who is willing to stand up for justice and the rights of the poor. We need another altruistic hero. As African-American celebrate the life of the Hero "Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Let's here in Grenada also, remember the life, contributions and sacrifices of our Hero, Minister of Peace Maurice Bishop. He was not perfect, but this guy did a lot for our youth and elderly people. Yes, Maurice Bishop helped to liberate Grenada from mental slavery. Justice must be served

Good morning Observer, Norie, Royr, Ron, Stallion, Nancy and Gabe. Gabe, I am not angry at you. Norie, you and your sister's experience and episode get me very emotional. I can actually feel your pain. However, I would like to correct you on one thing here regarding Tillman Thomas: both he and one of his brothers were imprisoned at Richmond Hill. His brother, though innocent, was repeated tortured-physically and mentally. I know the the family very well. The brother now lives in New York and often runs into those who were involved in inflicting such damages upon him. This guy has never gone through therapy but is surviving. But he's overcome quite a lot. Gabe, you are have a problem, and, and though I respect you as a person, I would not excuse your ignorance. The Jews are the most progressive ethnic group. The main reason for their success is chiefly based on their history and unwillingness to ever forget where they came (past), where they are at (present), and where they're going (future). And they make sure to past on whatever kept them alive, cohesively together and successful onto their children-from one generation to the other. We as a people do not have a history because we have blatantly refused to learn from the past. Just take a look at how many of us are on GC commenting and discussing those issues that are so dire to our country and young people. Just a few of us. Unless we see ourselves as interconnected, in-terdependent, honest, caring, devoted (at least to a cause), responsible for each other and are willing to take our place in Grenada and world and to create and make this society a better place for those to come, we will continue to live selfishly and within our own created four walls. Gabe, God expects us to take a stand for that which is prudent, correct and just. Where are all those Grenadian intellectuals who think they know it all. They are not in their communities, in the streets, homes or elsewhere doing anything to better someone else's life. They're simply thinking about themselves. We need people here to change the dialogue and cause people to become more involved in the affairs of our homes, community and society on a whole. We need people who can motivate others to be part of the social change process and movement. Yes, social change! Gabe, once I again, you're my brother. I respect you as a person. But I can't excuse your ignorance. Norie, Thanks so much for sharing your experience. It adds volume to this discussion.

Good morning to Norie,Royr, and the Observer, gentlemen i have read your postings on this site and i am as nervous and concern as a kitten just being taken away from her mum,and i am deeply concern for my country for each of your postings is filled with hatred and spite and you guys gives the impressions that you have grenada at heart but reading between the lines something tells me that your motives are much more dangerous and i say this simply by the contents and wordings in your postings ,Mr Observer this is for you my friend i big enough to withstan any negative that is written my me because i have no political axe to grind i am only a concern grenadian as many others are and if you had read my last posting properly you would have understand its content and in no way did i mention anything about forgetting our past because my friend we can never move forward if we dont know where we came from ,Mr Observer in my last posting my focus points was concerned with the senseless killings which is taking place in our country and what should be done to erradicate such behaviour, noting the recent killing of our grenadain brother who was on a visit to his home land yet what i am reading about on this site by some posters leaves me to believe that here in grenada there are still people with some serious political axe to grind and that tells me that we have a long way to go in advancing forward if we cannot be united as a people with the aim of moving forward in togetherness for it comes over to me that there are still certain people in our country who who has serious issues to grind and to me that in itself is dangerous. one love.

Good night all. Well first of all, I will like to elaborate on some of the views of the members in this forum. Ron, I totally agree with your blog on Mr. Tilman and his views on the the murderous gang. He personally dont have any regret with them because neither him nor his family was not scratched, beaten, or even murdered. Like my dead grand father use to say " show me your friends I tell you who you are". The Gang was the past opressors and Tilman and his gang are the mordern day opressors. Nancy, yes " we are to short minded and have limit our brains to memorise the past. I remembered my aunt was a supporter of Maurice and had to pick up and leave the country for about 15 years to Hungary just to see another light of day. My fam had guns stuck in my face to say where she was hiding, thank god I am alive to say so. I remember it all to clear. Those bastard should still be under the jail but only a mordern day opressor will consider their debt to society paid after these years. Stallion, I agree, {grenada/ians} is a nice peaceful place and people. Therefore, they will not show disapproval for they release and hiring of the gang. We are still being as friendly and peaceful with this latest world news we have made again. I live in New york, and I keep a close contact with family friends and our current affairs. Yes we are peaceful and because of thats you consider thats the reason we dont rebel, however, we are rebelling peacefully and still drawing a line with this embarrassment that has brought to us. After looking at the british news, they showed the invasion as the greatest rememberance Grenada made in the world news, same here in local New york news. Not the latest of KIRANI making world record. So yes if the so called industrial world remember that as our most memorable, how come it took a local government official to forget they memorable, heinous, brutal and murderous vendeda on our society and communities? And what were we rewarded with? Can the class tell me? Tell me also who should replace their jail cells? Yes, it should be Tilman and his 21th century gang that made the decison. And we still might put him back for another term after election. We are a forgetful Nation and people. So sad!
