INSIDE GRENADA MARCH 01, 2008
The St. Andrew’s North West Constituency Branch of the New National Party (NNP) this week distributed approximately eighty (80) food hampers to needy persons throughout the entire constituency. The hamper distribution commenced on Sunday February 24 and concluded on Friday February 29.
Each food hamper contained basic food items such as sugar, rice, flour, oil among other necessities amounting to a value of approximately EC$35.00. The money used to purchase and prepare the food hampers for the needy residents was obtained through a number of fund-raising activities undertaken by the Constituency Branch. The recipients of the assistance were persons enjoying their senior years. They were noticeably happy for the help given and ostensibly relished the social atmosphere created in the process. Members of the welfare group used the opportunity to sit, talk and listen to the observations of these individuals with a view to providing them with further assistance and helping to make their lives better.
This welfare group is one of the more active groups in the country at present. To date, the group (which is made up of vibrant and dedicated members) has provided much assistance to indigent and needy persons within the constituency.
The work of the group reflects the sentiments expressed by the New National Party’s candidate for the area, Mrs. Delma Thomas, who has stated publicly on a number of occasions that she is a woman of action and intends to bring effective representation to her constituents. She has frequently commented on the need to be visible within the constituency and to interface and interact with constituents so as to get their views, listen to their concerns and give them a sense of involvement in the development of their constituency.
