Dressing for Success
Does it really matter what you wear to the interview? It sure
does. You need to think seriously about the image that you want
to portray, after all, you never get a second chance to make a
first impression. Let the first time the prospective employer
see you be leave a lasting positive effect.
You need to look as if you will fit in with that company.
Moderation in dress is most always the key for the professional
interview. You want to appear confident, reliable, and polished.
If you're in doubt about how to dress for an interview, it is
best to err on the side of conservatism. It is much better to be
overdressed (in a suit) than underdressed (or undressed). If
you're not sure, check with the person who scheduled the
interview and ask about appropriate attire.
Heres what hiring managers recommend
General Interview Attire Tips
Before you even think about going on an interview, make
sure you have appropriate interview attire and everything fits
correctly. Skirts that are too short and blouses that are too
tight and gape are inappropriate. Guys, if the suit is one you
only wear to church at Easter and Christmas or to funerals, make
sure its clean.
Get your clothes ready the night before.
If you have a special interview outfit, wash it after an
interview, so it is ready for next time.
Polish your shoes.
Ladies, if you wear pantyhose, make sure there are no runs in
it.
Bring a breath mint and use it before you enter the building.

For Men and Women
Hair should be of a conservative style and not look like
you have spent hours caring for it. If you have braids or locks,
make sure theyre neat. Men who wear beards and mustaches should
take extra time to make sure facial hair is trimmed and not too
long. Women can usually wear their hair in more styles as long
as it is not too wild and brash. Fingernails should be trimmed
and hands clean. Women should not go overboard with bright,
flashy nail polish colors, and lipstick and eye makeup should be
used moderately.
Jewelry should be kept to a minimum and conservative in
appearance. Women should not wear giant hoop earrings or ones
that are extremely flashy. And dont wear too many rings. An
interview is not the place for all your bling.
Cologne and perfume are fine for both men and women as long as
it is not overbearing. You don't want to knock someone over by
using a half bottle of aftershave or perfume.
Your clothing should appear as a natural extension of you,
tailored to help you present a positive image and "shine" in the
interview. After the interview you can get back into those
comfortable jeans or shorts, T-shirts, and athletic shoes.
