Carmen Mills was born in Birch Grove on May 21, 1931. She departed this life on January 18, 2015 at the age 84. She was the eight child of Everlina and Cephas George; Carmen attended School in her early years and was a homemaker during her days in Grenada. Later, Carmen migrated to Trinidad where she became the mother of Laura Best. After living for many years in Trinidad, Carmen moved back to Grenada. Carmen finally migrated to the United States in the early eighties to prepare a better life for her children. She loved cooking, going to church and socializing with family and friends. She had a wonderful smile that could light up any room. Also she was a remarkable, devoted, loving, hardworking, witty, caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and humble friend. In addition, she made great sacrifices to make sure that her children had what they needed. Nevertheless, she was very strict in teaching them the values of life. Carmen lived a full loving life; she worked as a home health aide for several years until she became confined to bed for the last seventeen years and spent the years thereafter in her home. Despite her situation, she welcomed everyone with open arms who visited her until her passing on Sunday January 18, 2015. Yes, there were pain and sadness, and her struggle has come to a peaceful end. But even though she is gone, she left the bequest of her love, peacefulness and determination to go on with life. The way she touched our lives and others will forever remain in our hearts.
Carmen and her husband Gustavas have eight children, Laura, Harold, Claudius, Sheridan, Sonia, Stephaney, Janice and Jennifer. Daughters -in-law Sherma and Gertrude. Sons -in-law Alonzo and George. She leaves twenty- four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren. Her surviving siblings are Mable, Venetta, Orlando, Daniel and Fenrick. Carmen is also survived by her many nieces and nephews including Alberta, Freda, Ann, Linda, Selby, Urmin, Sherry, Oliver and many more.
Other family members including the Braveboys and Jasper Frederick of Birch Grove. A host of family friends including, Sister Beatrice, Catherine Archibald, Geno Barriteau, Roosevelt Gittens, Cynthia Noel & family, the Belmar’s, and Leno McSween, Lynette Alexander & Family. Neighbors and friends too numerous to mention.
Mummy your love will light our way, your memory will be with us forever.. You are free, praise the Lord you are free. Mom you no longer bound, no more chains holding you. Your soul is resting, and it’s a blessing, praise the Lord, hallelujah, you are free.
Thank you mummy for everything you have given us, the warmth you shared with us during your precious time on earth. We love you mom. Rest safely in Jesus’ arms.
