Bertrand Lewis Antoine was born on October 20, 1950 to the late Hilton and Mary B. Antoine of Birch Grove, St. Andrews, Grenada. He was the fourth child of ten children. Bertrand attended Birch Grove Roman Catholic School where he excelled academically. He then went on to St. Johns Christian Secondary School, otherwise known as Shaper, and continued to shine in his studies. Bertrand's favorite subject and passion was mathematics and he instilled this love of numbers in each of his six children. Upon graduating from Shaper, he started teaching at Birch Grove R.C. School. In 1977, he attended Grenada teachers college and graduated in 1979. He was an educator, scholar, mentor, Sunday school teacher and a disciplinarian. He never gave up on his students and pushed them all to succeed. It was at Birch Grove R.C. School that he met the love of his life, Veronica Lera Antoine (Sweetie), nee Roberts. They were married in July of 1977 and out of this union came six children: Louis, Louise, Lennox, Loraine, Laura and Leroy. Bertrand and Lera migrated to the United States in 1983 and resided in Brooklyn, New York. He matriculated at Medgar Evers College in 1985 where he continued his passion for learning and graduated with a Bachelors in Education. In 1989, Bertrand became an employee for Metropolitan Transit Authority where he worked for 20+ years until his retirement in 2012. Bertrand was a quiet man at most times but anyone that knew him well, knows that he loved to laugh and make jokes. He enjoyed watching his nature shows and Western movies. During his free time Bertrand enjoyed being outdoors tending to his tomatoes, cucumbers and various seasoning herbs in his garden. He will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family, continuous quest for knowledge and tenaciousness to always succeed. Bertrand's incessant philosophy on education and sustained ardor for learning is now evident in the lives of his children. He is survived by his beloved wife Veronica Lera Antoine(Sweetie); Children Louis Antoine( Alycia), Louise Antoine John(Filmore), Lennox Antoine (Steftia), Loraine Antoine, Laura Antoine and Leroy Antoine; six grandchildren Sabrina, Alexis, Caleb, Calah Rose, Kenneth and Liam; four brothers George Antoine, Dennis Antoine, Joseph (Keith) Antoine (Jackie), Robert Antoine and four sisters Gemma Calliste, Iva Antoine-Debellotte (Dunbar/Godfrey), Liba Quarless (Gregory), and Agnes( Sandra) Cato (Anthony).
