Special Info |
Francis Douglas aka Ahpus, was born on January 9th 1947, to Anita and
Griffith Douglas in the village of Boca, St.George. He was the Father of
Carolann in the UK, Francine and Chard in the US and Christal in Trinidad.
Francis was a man of few words but he had a strong and ambitious
personality and never shied away from hard work. After attending Beaulieu
RC School, Francis found himself a job as a bus conductor and a short time
later, was able to acquire a bus and become one of the favorite bus drivers
on the northeast route in St.George for a number of years. That ambitious
personality pushed him to migrate to Trinidad & Tobago in the early 1970’s in
search of a better quality of life. He worked as a construction worker and
took the initiative and opportunity to learn and develop skills in carpentry and
masonry. In the late 1980’s he emigrated from Trinidad to Canada and
eventually to the US, where he continued to work in construction and
carpentry until he became ill and was eventually hospitalized. Even while
hospitalized, during our visits, Francis would sometimes touch the furniture
and say “I am the one that made this” - that always made me smile.
His family and long time friends will remember Francis as being easy going
and happy. Always fashionably dressed and known for wearing his cap tilted
to the side and a kerchief in his back pocket. His slick attire had caught the
eyes of quite a few ladies back in the day. He loved a good BBQ. It was one of
his favorite things to do while listening to some old-time calypso, especially
The Mighty Sparrow, playing in the background.
On Tuesday April 9th, Francis left this world peacefully and there is no more
pain and suffering for him. He will be deeply missed by his family and his
close friends |
